Lower Alabama Parrot Head Minutes – May 2011
The meeting was called to order by Club President Kim Dahlgren at Lulu’s Restaurant at 11:30 AM, May 14, 2011
Present were 31 members and 7 guests/potential members
TREASURER’S REPORT – Jane Tarver gave the Treasurer’s Report. Balance forward was $2,328.44. Income was $3,121.00 including our $3,000.00share of STARS proceeds. Expenses were $337.50 leaving a balance of $5,111.94. With $3,000.00 of that moved to charity, the charity account balance is $3,161.50 and general balance is $2,111.94.
Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch – Jim Harmon, Director of the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch accepted our $750 donation from Kim and Treasurer, Jane Tarver. The ranch is home to children 6-18 who come from “unfortunate circumstances”. There is also a college house for young men who attend college. Mr. Harmon was very appreciative of the donation and urged us to visit their facility which is on County Road 32 in Summerdale. It is about 3 miles east of Highway 59.
BARC – Linda Brokow and Ellen Murphy were present from BARC to accept our $750 donation. They were very appreciated for the donation to help the rescued animals.
Gulf Shores Volunteer Fire Department – Lt. Brian McMahan, Michael Powell and Jonathan Sellers were present to accept our $750 donation. Funds will be used to upgrade the trailer that they use to haul materials to schools and community events to present their fire prevention programs. Our logo will be on the side as sponsors. The firemen arrived in a BRT (Big Red Truck) and we all had pictures taken with the truck.
Orange Beach Volunteer Fire Department – They were unable to attend the meeting. Their $750 donation check will be delivered this week.
STARS – VP “Plane Jane” announced that it was a huge success. A total of $12,000 was raised for the four sponsoring clubs. Our club earned $3,000 for our charity work. “Mother Hen” will not be in charge next year as she is heavily involved in “Meeting of the Minds” in Key West. The new STARS chairman is David Barnes of the Biloxi PHs. There will be no increase in registration fee next year. Stay tuned as tickets go fast.
SMART RIDE TO LULU’S – The event was a big success. We monitored refreshment stops and direction change locations. A special thank you to “Plane Jane”, our event coordinator. Good job Plane Jane. A total of 120 volunteer hours were recorded. Lower Alabama Parrot Heads rock!!!!
PH Members BILL and COLEEN – Performing the next two Saturdays from 3-7 at the Jellyfish Bar on Perdido Key. Come out and enjoy their fun music.
A motion was made and passed to donate $200 to the FINS fund for the purpose of helping PHs affected by the tornados in Central and Northern Alabama.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 PM.
