Important Notice: The next meeting will be the FIRST Saturday of February. February 4, 2012. This was done to accommodate LuLu’s Tropical Reunion – see below. This will be the last meeting before STARS.

Elections: The results were not officially available at the time of the club meeting. These will be announced at the February club meeting. Although, there should not be any surprises since every office was running unopposed.
Membership Renewals: These are now due for 2012. If you have not paid your dues and don’t want to miss out on all this phun, do so now.
PHiP Report: As a sanctioned Parrot Head Club we are required to submit and annual report to Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP). This will be mailed on January 17, 2012. We will be reporting that the Lower Alabama Parrot Heads donated $6,472 and 1,314 parrot-hours to various organizations. Not bad for a little club. Way to go LAPH!!!!
Christmas Party: The Christmas Party was an unqualified success. The Calypso Nuts were absolutely out of this world. Everyone had a great time. President’s Note: A special thank you to all for the song and the plaque. It was better than being crowned prom queen.
Noon Year’s Eve at LuLu’s: The last event for 2011 was a lot of phun. Once again, LuLu ordered great weather. We added 51 hours to our parrot-hours for 2011.
Polar Bear Dip Challenge: “We are the champions!” We had over 90 points for the dip – one point for showing up, one point for dipping. The vote was to donate the $100 to Habitat for Humanity. Sandy Folan, who works for them, collected the check. She said they had a goal to raise $2 million dollars and double the number of families they can help. At least we got them started on their way.
NEW EVENTS
Gulf Coast Half Marathon: This event will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012. We will run a water station somewhere around mile 7, just off the main beach road in the state park (I was way off the location at the meeting). There are prizes for the best water station. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500 and third prize is $250. We will be judged on cleanliness, decorations and enthusiasm. We are scheduled to have live music and maybe live parrots, depending on the weather. Suggestions from the Parrot Heads of Pensacola included how to have the water ready, bring oranges, ice and rakes. The race starts at 7:00AM (yes, that is in the morning) and has a maximum 4-hour time frame. The race will begin and end at LuLu’s. This is also where the after party will be. Rollin’ in the Hay will be performing from 9 AM to 12 noon. A sign up sheet was passed around, but we still need and want volunteers. Please contact Kim at kim26607@yahoo.com to volunteer. The exact location and time of arrival will be forthcoming – soon.
Tropical Reunion: This event will be held on Saturday, February 11. Our own Hurricane Jane, or should I say The Reverend Jane Tarver, will officiate. Registration will begin at 1:00 PM, so we need to be there at 12:30 PM to get the prep work done. Like last year, we will run two shifts. First shift will be 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM and the second shift will be 1:45 PM to 4 PM. The ceremony will be at 4:00 PM. Cy Myers has agreed to the Chair for this event, please e-mail him at myers.cy@gmail.com to volunteer. All we do is register the couples and pass out the flowers. It really is simple.
Mardi Gras:
|
Saturday, February 18
|
Krewe of the Merry Mullet – Country Road 1 – not an official LAPH event, but a lot of phun
|
|
Monday, February 20
|
Order of the Mystic Magnolias – we have some members in this Fairhope parade – come and enjoy the parade
|
|
Tuesday, February 21
|
Mardi Gras Day – Several members of our club will be in this parade. Capt. Tyler will be doing the LuLu’s boat parade, weather permitting, which runs along the canal

Stars Fell on Alabama – Thursday March 17th thru Sunday March 20, 2012. The STARS Board has announced that Day Passes will be available for 2012. They will be $30 per day per person and you MUST volunteer to work at least one shift at STARS. Each club will receive only 12-day passes, if you are interested please let Kim, Hurricane Jane or Plan Jane know. If you did not get registered and do not want to purchase a day pass, the events at the Flora-Bama and LuLu’s are open to the public. Make plans to join in these two phantastic parties.
It is time to start collecting items to donate for our Silent Auction. This year we only have to provide 4 or 5 raffle items. Two of them need to be liquor baskets. There are two of our raffle items that were not collected last year, so we will inventory their contents and use what we can. The club is asking each club member to bring about $10 worth of liquor to the next meeting. This can be in the form of miniatures or full bottles. Of course, you can always bring more. It is also time to begin collecting logos for the back of the STARS t-shirt. The deadline for these logos is February 1, 2012. The donation letter will be sent our under a separate cover. Please let Hurricane Jane at janetarver@gulftel.com know if you have any businesses purchasing logos.
