The Charity balance is $0. We gave it and then some away for Christmas. Yeah for us!!!!!
Shrimp Festival: A draft of a letter addressed to the President of the Shrimp Festival, Ron Kutter, was passed around for review. This letter expressed the dissatisfaction of the Lower Alabama Parrot Heads for the treatment received at Shrimp Fest. It does not say that we will NOT volunteer for Shrimp Fest 2010, but leaves it to a vote by the club. The decision to volunteer for 2010 will be discussed at a later date. Late News: The letter has been mailed, but to date not response.
New Officers: Ballots were e-mailed to members who are eligible to vote. Please snail mail these back to Cookie and Gerald Ogden. Results will be announced at the February meeting.
Polar Bear Dip: Once again the Lower Alabama Parrot Heads were slightly edged out by the Parrot Heads of Pensacola. Curses! Foiled again! But we did get on TV and in the Mullet Wrapper. We will give them $100 for their favorite charity. President’s note: You would think that if the Saints can make it to the Super Bowl we could win the Polar Bear Dip Challenge! Next year is our year for sure!!!!
Noon Year’s Eve at LuLu’s: Thanks to everybody that participated. Johnny Fisher, LuLu’s Manager, came by the meeting to give us a special thank you. We had such a great time – face painting, crafts, sand castle building and bubble wrap popping. Mark your calendar for 2010.
Parrot Heads in Paradise: The annual report has been mailed and confirmation received for 2010. A total of $4,269, 660.0 parrot-hours and 8 pounds of pop-tops were reported as our contribution. Phins up for us!!!! We have a great start on the pop-tops for 2010, so keep saving them.
Mardi Gras: Lulu’s needs walkers for the Gulf Shores parade on February 13, 2010. If you think you want to be part of this, please e-mail Kim at kim26607@yahoo.com immediately. We need to get the volunteer list to Johnny Fisher at LuLu’s.
Due to Mardi Gras, it was voted to move the February meeting to Saturday, February 20, 2010. This is actually the third Saturday of the month. On the 13th, is the Krewe of the Merry Mullets parade on County Road 1. This is one of the best parades in the area. We even bring our own port-a-let. If you plan on coming to this parade, just bring your chairs, what you want to drink and something to share. There will be grills available. The main crew will be arriving at around 9AM (but the parade is not until 2:30). Kim’s cell phone is 609-7330 for directions to where the tailgate party is situated. Usually it is right at the intersection of County Road 1.
Cruise: Jackie Grear announced there is still room on the cruse Scheduled for May 15 out of Mobile. Jane Veillon is looking for a roommate for the trip. Please contact Kim if you are interested in the cruise.
Membership renewals: If you haven’t got your 2010 dues in, now is the time. I know you don’t want to miss out on the Phun.
Stars Fell on Alabama
STARS is sold out. Day passes are available for $25 per day per person. You must purchase a day pass before you can volunteer to work at the Island House. If you are at the Island House without credentials (a pass), you will be asked to leave. If you think you might want a day pass, please contact Kim at kim26607@yahoo.com or Hurricane Jane at janetarver@gulftel.com. There are a limited number of passes and they are on a first come first serve basis.
There will be a special raffle for the host clubs. Volunteers will be given a special raffle ticket for each hour worked at STARS. So keep that in mind when you sign up to work.
We have some pretty neat stuff already for the Silent Auction. But we always need more. We also need logos, stuff for the goodie bag and raffle items.
· Logos: If you have received any logos, please get them to Kim or Hurricane Jane immediately. Time is running out for these. We have to get the shirts designed and to the printers.
· Raffle Items: Each club is to provide 10 raffle items. We have the bags we are going to use, but we really, really need “stuff” to go in them. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive, just something to go in our raffle bags. Does your company have any t-shirts, koozies, pens, pencils, widgets? How about something from the Dollar Store? WE NEED SOME STUFF!!!
· Goodie Bags: If you are providing anything for the goodie bag, we need 450 of each item or some composite of 450 items.
· Silent Auction: We are beginning to collect and consolidate all the stuff for the silent auction. This is a major task. If you have something for the silent auction, please let Kim know immediately. If you contact someone for a silent auction donation, please let Kim know so that we do not duplicate our requests.
A “Basket Building” party will be held at Kim and Tyler’s house immediately following the next meeting on February 20th. So bring your donations to the next meeting and if you can’t make the “Basket Case” party after the meeting, your contribution will still be there. Suggestion: We are in need of some wine or tequila for some of the baskets. It would be a great donation to just brings a bottle (or two) to the February meeting as part of your donation. I promise we will NOT drink them at the party, but use them for the baskets. I know that some people are just more comfortable donating money – so we will take that too. Nothing is too small. It is amazing what some of these people can do with the stuff we get donated.
If there are some artists out there and I know there are, we will gladly accept your one of a kind donation.
Here are some of the donations and basket ideas that are in the making: contribution:
· Pirate’s chest with wine and Mardi Gras “pearls”.
· A dog basket
· A cooking basket
· Christmas basket(s)
· Margarita basket
· Jade necklace from Hong Kong
· Parrot Head wreath
· Driftwood Christmas Tree
· Wine/cheese stuff, bread dipping stuff
· Tropical Plates
· Song Writers Festival Poster (framed)
· Buffett posters (framed – 4)
· Several other pictures
· A 1965 Auburn Yearbook (Jimmy is in it)
· And just a whole lot of other “stuff” – so you can see that your contribution is welcome and will be put to good use.
This is just a few of the items that we have collected over the year. So get out there and “do the hustle”. Good Luck.
Fruitcake Basket: The Fruitcake Basket was very generously donated by Jackiek Grear and won by Jane Veillon.
The next meeting is Saturday, February 20th at 11:15 at LuLu’s. This is one week later than normal due to Mardi Gras, so mark your calendar appropriately and don’t forget your donations. See Ya There!!!!!
