Lower Alabama Parrot Head Club Minutes – AUGUST 2011

 

The meeting was called to order by Club President Kim Dahlgren at Lulu’s Restaurant at 11:30 AM, August 13, 2011.

Present were 44 members and 4 guest/potential members

TREASURER’S REPORT – Jane Tarver submitted the Treasurer’s Report. Balance forward was $2,416.76. Income/deposits was $139.00 including raffle, dues, and tee shirt sales. There were no expenses leaving a balance of $2,555.76. The charity account balance is $116.50.

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA PH CLUB CRUISE – There will be a PH cruise out of New Orleans from January 15 thru 21. The event also includes 3 days in New Orleans prior to the cruise. Larry and Sharon Ramirez have all the information.

COASTAL CLEAN-UP – Will be on September 17th this year with the great party at Kim’s afterward.   Mark your calendars. In her absence, Hurricane Jane was elected food chairperson and new member Angie Schumacher volunteered to be event chair.  Please bring whatever you want to drink and something to share.  The burgers, brats and ice will be furnished.   Please contact Angie at samstar_99@yahoo.com and let her know what you are bringing to the party.   We want to have a great selection – not just all beans.  There will also be margaritas made with the tequila that LuLu’s gave us at STARS 2011.  Even if you can’t make the cleanup, feel free to attend the after party.  Just let us know we have to plan for the burgers and brats.

MS Bike Tour- Tour de Beach – September 24th and 25th. We have volunteered to assist but as yet we are not sure if we will be at the finish line or handling a water station. Maybe both. Tour will start and end at the new Hampton Inn in Orange Beach.  It begins at 9:00 and should end by around 3 PM.  Please e-mail Kim Dahlgren at kim26607@yahoo.com to sign up for this event.

SHRIMP FESTIVAL – October 13, 14 and 15. Plane Jane has chaired this event in the past and will do so again. We will be working Thursday and Saturday. They are 4 hour shifts and we will have to wear the Shrimpfest T-shirts, not our PH shirts, but they can be “slashed”. Also we are not allowed to drink during our shifts. ABC may be checking. Jane still needs volunteers for the 10 to 2 Saturday shift, the 6-10 Saturday shift, and the 6-10 Thursday shift. Contact Plane Jane at janev@cpsinet.com to volunteer.

It was voted to donate our tips to the Orange Beach Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for their Toys for Boys and Girls.  Last year, without the Lower Alabama Parrot Head donation, they would not have had a lot of toys to donate.

WONDERFUL WHACKY WOMEN – Because we are so good at it, this organization has asked us to help them with their silent auction event. The event will be at the Flora-Bama on October 29th. We will help them set-up and run the auction. Some of our PH members are also in that organization.

 

STARS – Thursday March  15th thru Sunday March   18th 2012. You are too late, the event is completely sold out. It was sold out in 10 days !! Some of the headliners will be Brent Burns, Bill White, Sunny Jim, Jim Morris and John Friday.  For those that didn’t get registered, the events at the Flora Bama (Friday night) and LuLu’s (Saturday) are open to the public.  Please make plans to attend those.

Start collecting items to donate for our Silent Auction baskets.  We will have only 3 or 4 raffle items to donate in 2012.  Two of these need to be small booze baskets worth about $50 each.  We will begin collecting stuff for that in January/February.  We have two raffle bags left over from last year, so we will just recycle those.

MEETING OF THE MINDS  Key West – Get registered as places go quickly. Several of our members plan on attending.

** Brent Burns will be in concert September 1st at the Ernie Meyer Center in Gulf Shores. It starts at 6:00 for 2 hours. Bring lawn chairs and coolers.

** Member Don Chambers is riding his Motorcycle (hog) to NYC for the 9/11 commemoration ceremonies – our thoughts and prayers for with you Don.

**Keep saving pop-tops for Ronald McDonald House.

**The wonderful Fruitcake basket was donated by Pat and Tony Marsilio and won by Angie Schumacker.  We raised over $100 – way to go plock!!!
